Such is the quality of the layout designed by famed golf architect Alex Russell, the club has hosted the New Zealand Open Championship 12 times, a record unsurpassed.
 
Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club has ranked as highly as 71st in the world, however many of the world's top professionals have rated it more of a challenge than that. Golfers from Gary Player to Peter Thompson, Bob Charles to Michael Campbell, Greg Turner to Peter Fowler and Tiger Woods in 2002 have all played and loved this course.
